Anantapur SP GVG Ashok Kumar gets best cop award

• Cybercrimes pose greatest challenge for cops: GVG Ashok
• Calls upon people to extend cooperation to the cop for making district safe

Anantapur: District Superintendent of Police (SP) GVG Ashok Kumar has been nominated for the 6th consecutive time for the ‘Best Policeman Award’ by the Central government. 

His name has been shortlisted amidst tough scrutiny. The parameters for the award include over all track record, integrity, style of functioning, innovation in policing and non-controversial in nature. 

He received letter of commendations from President of India Ram Nath Kovind and Governor ESL Narasimhan on his receiving the best policeman award. 

Talking to The Hans India on the occasion, SP Ashok Kumar said that cracking cybercrimes is the greatest challenge to the police in the days to come. 

Tackling crime against women, total eradication of factional feuds, minimising of road accidents and checking cybercrimes are some of his priorities, he said in response to a question. The SP mentioned that the increase in crime against women is a reflection on the collapse of moral standards in the society. 

He stated that 18,000 CCTV cameras had been installed after he took over as SP of the district. Awareness had been created effectively on the use of helmets and it was heartening to see rural folk using helmets more than their urban counterparts. 

The policemen are being given a new orientation on ways and means of checking cybercrimes. Ashok Kumar said that the challenge before the police was handling inter-state gangs indulging in cybercrimes. 

Organised gangs are operating from Jharkhand state, he revealed. He said that with the induction of more graduates in the appointment of police constables, the culture is changing among the constables for good. 

On the home security plan in vogue dubbed as Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS), SP Ashok said that the district cops have launched an awareness and education campaign involving all policemen. 

The people are to download the LHMS App from a play store and fill up a form giving details of name, address, mobile number and other details and get it registered with the police. In turn, the cops would give a unique identity card to the applicant. 

When the applicant goes outstation and keeps his house locked for a few days, the cops are to be informed so that the police would come and install a wireless motion camera at the house and from police station monitor the house and also the movements of people in the vicinity of the locked house. 

The cameras will be linked to the police control room. SP Ashok called upon the people to extend cooperation to the police and help make the district the safest and peaceful place to live and facilitate
development.
