Energy department to intensify drive on digital payments

Vijayawada: The officials of Energy department here on Thursday have decided to intensify the drive for digital payments for easy payments of electricity bills. As per the plans, the Energy department wants 90 per cent of bills should be paid through the digital payment. The department should be more consumer-centric and provide the best consumer services.

During the day-long session held at Vidyuth Soudha here on Thursday with the officials, Principal Secretary to Energy department Ajay Jain said that the Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (SPDCL) and Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (EPDCL) should strive more to enhance the percentage of e-payments for electricity bills. ``The department wants to make easier the electricity bill payment system as part of providing the best services to the people,’’ he said.

K Vijayanand, Chief Managing Director AP TRANSCO and AP GENCO, K Ranganatham, Advisor for Power Sector, Dinesh Paruchuri and Umapathi, JMDs of AP TRANSCO, MM Nayak, HY Dora, Kamalakar Babu, CMDs of DISCOMs, Adiseshu, MD NREDCAP, and other Directors, CEs and SEs of power utilities were present.

Ajay Jain stated that the state government wanted the officials of power utilities to take up a massive campaign by using various mediums to create awareness among consumers and explain them how to switch to digital payments easily. The percentage of consumers who are making payment through e-payment mode was very desperate, the message on digital payments should reach every home in the state, he said.
