Physical Education Teacher candidates demand filling up of 1,056 vacancies

Update: 2018-09-28 05:30 IST

Vijayawada: Physical Education Teacher (PET) candidates climbed the overhead water tank at Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium here on Thursday demanding the government to issue notification immediately and fill PET posts lying vacant in various government schools in the State.

The PET candidates are disappointed with the recent announcement by the State government that only 47 PET posts would be filled in the State. The PETs say that the government had earlier announced that 1,056 PET posts were lying vacant in the government schools and that they would be filled. Now, the PET candidates are insisting that all 1,056 posts should be filled at any cost.

Some PET candidates climbed the overhead water tank at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation stadium in the evening demanding that the government should give assurance to concede their demand. The police swung into action and arrested the protesting PETs. It may be recalled that Chief Minister recently gave nod for filling of over 20,000 posts.

The government announced over 9,000 teaching posts to be filled in the State. In this backdrop, PETs decided to launch an agitation and staged a protest in Vijayawada. Earlier, several hundred PET candidates from across the State came to the city and participated in the protest rally from Vijayawada Railway Station to Dharna Chowk.
