Bara Shaheed Dargah, parks to get facelift

 

• Tank bund including Dargah would be developed withRs 16.3 crore
• Rs 10 crore allocated for improving select 10 parks

Nellore: The Nellore Urban Development Authority (NUDA) is taking up temple tourism circuit works in Nellore city by collaborating development of Bara Shaheed Dargah, tank bund and local parks as part of the project. 

Hyderabad-based RMN Infrastructure Limited had bagged tenders and started works of necklace road along the tank bund from Irukalalamma temple up to Collector’s Bungalow.

Municipal Administration department had proposed the tank bund at a cost of Rs 16.3 crore and the NUDA is taking up the project. 

Bara Shaheed Dargah would also be covered as part of the project for giving facelift to the popular area. 

Even though, the project was designed by the civic body earlier subsequently has been entrusted to Nuda after its formation. 

In fact, the state government had invited tenders for the works and RMN Infrastructure Limited has started works with initiation of the Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana. 

State government has proposed to take up rejuvenation of Swarnala Cheruvu under National Lake Conservation Plan and engaged Aarvee Agencies from Hyderabad for preparing a detailed project report a couple of years ago. 

The tank is close to Bara Shaheed Dargah and devotees visit the tank to offer prayers. Officials are planning to develop walkers’ track, cycling track, food courts, greenery, LED lighting and many others making the tank bund a lovely place for some relief to the city population during holidays and festivals for spending time. 

Target set for the private firm was to complete the task by next January. The consulting agency also suggested earlier to maintain standard of biochemical oxygen demand in wastewater being generated from the city. 

National River Conservation Directorate also suggested to maintain levels and total suspended solids in the wastewater through efficient treatment. Now, works have been speeded up for early completion of the project and funds have been allocated from AMRUT programme. 

Besides developing tank bund, they also linked development of 10 parks in the nearby areas for the benefit of the city population. Ghats in the Dargah area would also be developed as part of the project for more convenience to the devotees, who attend during Roti Festival. 

Allocated funds of Rs 10 crore would be utilised for improving the selected 10 parks in the city. Tender process for these parks was also over and the contractors have yet to take up works.
