Students asked to study Gandhian philosophy

Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi on Wednesday observed two-minute silence to mark the observance of Martyr’s Day paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi who was assassinated on January 30, 1948.

KPC Gandhi, chairman of AP Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi, appealed to people to follow the Gandhian ideology as they were still relevant in 21st century. Sandhya Rani, commissioner of school education, who was chief guest, said the students should study Gandhian philosophy.

“It’s good that Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi has decided to provide DVDs of Richard Attenborough’s Gandhi in Telugu to the students of 150 schools in the first phase to enable them to learn about Gandhi,” she said and added that it is high time that everyone learn more about Gandhi.

G Rashmi, secretary of both Vasavya Mahila Mandali and AP Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi, said that it was good that the students were evincing keen interest to learn about Gandhiji. 

She thanked Devineni Madhusudana Rao, chairman of Devineni Sitaramamma Foundation for sponsoring the publication of poems on Gandhi. 
A poems book on Gandhiji in Telugu was released by the chief guest Sandhya Rani and others. Earlier, the students of various colleges and schools came in a rally carrying the lamps to the venue at Siddhartha Auditorium and paid glowing tributes to Gandhiji’s bust there. 

Swatantra Bharata Ramesh prepared a dance drama on the Freedom Struggle with the students of various schools and people well received it with applause. Dogiparti Sankar Rao, Dr Samaram, Dr Vijayam, Dr Vedavati, N Venkateswarlu, president of Siddhartha Academy and others were also present.
