Safa Baitul Maal starts distributing ‘Ramzan ration’

Hyderabad: The City based Charity group Safa Baitul Maal has started distributing ‘Ramzan ration’ to the poor and deserving families across the City. They distributed about 400 packets out of a target of 2,500 amongst the families living in Baba Nagar and surrounding areas on Sunday.  

Speaking to The Hans India, M A Muqtadir Imran, In-charge of Branches said that the distribution of ration is a long drawn process as it involves first hand survey of the deserving families or beneficiaries. About 80 volunteers are engaged in the process and after their endorsement a token is handed over to the deserving family, after filling of application form. 

The packaging of about 2,000 packets has already completed before the beginning of distribution process. “We hand over the packets to these families after they fulfill all the formalities, before the beginning of Ramzan,” he said. 

The Charity group has targeted 70 slums in the City, where the entire stock of ration is planned to be distributed by May 16, the beginning of the holy month. Each of packet costs about Rs 2,000 and includes all 14 types of essential items. 

“We invite the deserving families to a local function hall in the area and distributed them after verifying form. Currently we have 2,000 packets of ration and we hope to distribute in about 2,500 packets to poor families within next two to three days,” added the In-charge. 

One of the major fundraising sources of the Safa Baitul Maal remains scrap collection. The scrap collecting campaign, which was started by Educational Welfare and Charitable Trust about few years back, has now become a full-fledged operation which runs throughout the year. The individuals who believes in charity disposes of the old furniture, clothing and other items by directly contacting the Trust’s office based in Old Malakpet, situated on the banks of Musi river.

The vehicles collecting scrap has monitoring system and tracked through GPS to ensure the items reach godown in Shastripuram safely, before being disposed off through a process of auctioneering which is tightly monitored by the senior staffers. For efficient delivery, the tracking system monitors the vehicular movement to ensure all the items are delivered in time and intact.
