4,064 bags of spurious cotton seeds seized

Gadwal: The Agriculture officials of Jogulamba-Gadwal district have seized 4,064 bags of Seed Cotton seeds worth Rs 6.75 crore from the government store house near Cotton market on Tuesday. According to authorities of Agriculture Department, spurious Seed Cotton Seed bags were illegally stored at the government store house.

Upon further enquiry about the illegally stored stocks, it is revealed that these stocks belonged to Sree Rama Seed Company and was stored without any government permission at the government gowdowns. When the Agriculture Officials came to know about the illegal stocks stored, a special investigation team enquired into the details of the stocks stored and seized the entire stock of spurious seeds.

“Based on the information received we have raided the government godwons and seized 4,064 Seed Cotton Seeds bags of Sree Rama Seed Company. The company management could not produce any valid documents relating to these stocks. We have booked a case of spurious seed stocking against company management,” said Govind Nayak, Agriculture Officer, Jogulamba-Gadwal.
