Forest Minister Jogu unveils Phule’s statue

​Yadadri-Bhongir: Minister for Forests and BC Welfare Jogu Ramanna said that the best way to pay tributes to Mahatma Jyothirao Phule was to uplift the poor, downtrodden and the backward classes. 

Addressing the gathering after unveiling the statue of Jyothirao Phule  in Bhongir town on Tuesday, Ramanna said that the State government has been taking several measures for the welfare of the backward classes by following the teachings of Phule. 

Furthermore, he informed that the government has decided to assist the students of the backward community for overseas studies by providing them a financial aid of Rs 20 lakh on par with the students from the scheduled castes and scheduled tribes from this academic year. 

Minister Ramanna said that the government sanctioned Rs 1.10 crore for the setting up of BC Study circles in all districts, and they would also be setup at Bhongir and Aler, he added.  

He informed that more than Rs 1000 crore were allocated to the OBCs last year. This year, those who were eligible would get 80 per cent  subsidy on loans worth Rs 1 to 2 lakh. So far, about Rs 5.77 lakh candidates applied for loans and they would be sanctioned to the beneficiaries in the month of August after scrutinising their documents  without the involvement of banks.

Plans are afoot to construct buildings for various caste groups to strengthen the caste based professions and rural economy.

Bhongir MP Boora Narsaiah Goud said that apart from the welfare activities, the government has established as many as 119 BC gurukul schools to provide quality education to the students belonging to the  backward classes.
