24-year-old poses as income tax officer; swindles businessman

  BENGALURU: On Wednesday a 24-year-old youth belonging to Nagaland, had been allegedly posing to be an income-tax officer was arrested. As he had swindled a businessman of Rs 2.2 lakh.

On  the 14th of December John Kasich, who is a resident of Ejipura and from Dimapur, Nagaland, had called a resident of Nobo Nagar on the Bannerghatta Road and introduced himself as an officer of the income-tax department. John had asked him to click on a link which had been sent to his mobile to update his income-tax account. Without giving it a brief check, the victim had clicked the link which sent an OTP that had approved a bank transaction to the fraudster.

The victim later realised that he had been cheated when he got a message that Rs 2.2 lakh had been debited from his account. He then approached the cyber crime police who confirmed that the money had been transferred to the bank account of John and tracked him down with the help of his mobile number and arrested him.
