An insult to democracy

Update: 2018-12-20 05:30 IST

Definitely without any doubt school kids are far better than the Members of Parliament as commented by Speaker of Lok Sabha as house is not allowed to run its business in spite of repeated appeals by the Speaker (The Hans India,19/12). School kids pay the fees regularly and attend classes and listen to teachers with good attention and respect them with fear as well as affection following their instructions. Even some kids might be afraid of their parents but afraid of teachers for any indiscipline.

But unfortunately, our members receive salaries, other allowances and benefits from tax payers’ money but always try to disturb the house without transacting any business with indiscipline and insult the temple of democracy by not allowing Speaker to run the business. School kids pays for discipline whereas members of parliament receive payment for indiscipline and chaos in the house disturbing it.

It is true that not only in our country but NRIs and others abroad are just astonishing at the behaviour of MPs in parliament obstructing the business persistently thus wasting precious hours of parliament just for selfishness and political ego without any accountability to the people who sent them to temple of democracy as their representatives.

This is not new to Indian parliament but a decades-old malady without any treatment by any one as intellectuals and other statesmen and women are just onlookers at this tamasha in Parliament. How long this will continue irrespective of political parties ruling the country as all are sailing in same boat of insulting parliament? Who has to transform the members for ethical behaviour?

Behaviour of MPs deplorable

It is very sad to note the comment of our Speaker of Lok Sabha that 'School kids are better than us'. Really some of the MPs are behaving in a very vulgar manner. They never bother about the prestige of the House. Simply they want to prove their point just like small kids. Don't they know the fact that their behaviour in the House is observed by many throughout the world? An MP from Andhra Pradesh is demeaning the image of Telugu people every day like a cheap comedian. Very strict code of conduct is to be introduced and those who violate it should be terminated from the house and disqualified from contesting elections forever.
