Temperatures dip low in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: As the night temperature in Bengaluru Urban dipped to 11.7 degrees Celsius on Monday and 10.8 degrees in Bengaluru Rural, experts at Karnataka State Natural Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) recording it are skeptical about the trends in the temperature saying the levels will normalise over the next few days and attribute the dip in minimum temperature to Cyclone Phethai.

SSM Gavaskar, a scientist at KSNDMC, says that many parts of Karnataka are receiving chill winds due to the cyclone coupled with enhanced cloud cover over the region keeping the temperatures cool. 

Even the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted no significant drops this winter season. 

Trends across the state

According to the KSNDMC, Kolar (11.5 degrees Celsius), Kodagu (11.6), Chikkaballapura and Hasan (11.8), Chamarajanagar(12.3), Shivamogga and Tumakuru District (12.6) are experiencing colder nights too.The Lowest minimum temperature recorded at Belagodu Hobli in Hassan district around 7.3 degrees. Over 76% of the state recorded minimum temperature in the range of 12 to 18 degrees.
