Compensation paid

Vemulawada: Local MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh Babu on Wednesday gave away a cheque for Rs 2 lakhs to a woman, as compensation, whose three-year-old boy was killed after being trampled by calves in the premises of Sri Raja Rajeswara Swamy temple in Vemulawada on March 26 this year. 

A family from Mulkanoor village of Bheemdevarapalli in Warangal Urban district visited Vemulawada Rajanna temple on the occasion of Sri Ramanavami. They slept in the temple premises on that night. The calves, which were offered to the Lord by devotees as part of ‘Kode Mokkulu’, trampled over the devotees. The three-year-old boy, Giraveni Manush received serious injuries and died on his way to hospital. 

Temple EO Dusa Rajeshwar, PRO Chandrashekhar and others were also present on the occasion. ‘Kode Mokkulu’ is a ritual where devotees offer oxen to the lord  to express their gratitude to him for fulfilling their desires.
