51 booked for drunk driving

Khammam: In a special drive taken up during the last two days under the supervision of ACP J Sadaniranjan, Traffic CI N Chittibabu registered cases against 51 persons for drunk driving.

After they were produced before JFMC Magistrate (Mobile Court) M Ushasri, 16 were jailed for periods ranging from one to seven days, after counselling. They were fined Rs 1,000 each. Each of the 35 others were fined Rs 2,500 (total Rs.87,500). 

The drive was taken up following orders issued by Commissioner of Police Tafshir Iqbal. Among those who took part in the drive were Traffic SI, court duty officers S Sudhakar Rao and D Lakshamayya. The ACP warned against drunken driving, as it would harm others.
