Beautician course by TSMFC turns a sham

Hyderabad: In an instance of how job-oriented training courses being run by TSMFC (Telangana State Minority Finance Corporation) are turning into money-swindling proposition for the private entities winning the contract, the recently completed ‘Beautician Course’ (2017-18) has unravelled a scam allegedly perpetrated by the organisers.

The beautician course is part of the State government’s scheme of ‘Training and Employment’ for the unemployed women for their empowerment. On completion of the training course, the trainee gets a certificate and can apply for a job or can come up with own business. However, the training is provided by the institute having expertise in this particular field which partners the TSMFC.

According to sources, this year the TSMFC targeted 500 students. But in practice only 100 out of 300 applicants turned up for the training. However, the institute claimed to have trained all the applicants for the 3-month course and claimed Rs 15,000 per applicant from the corporation. Even from the 100 students who wished to undergo the training, only a few were invited to join classes. The classes, too, were conducted only for about a fortnight and later certificates were issued with much pomp and hype at a Banjara Hills-based hotel recently.

A student hailing from AC Guards, near Masab Tank, said that, at first they announced that the courses were offered for free from the government, but for application, Rs 150-300 was collected from each aspirant. “The training was not given and after completion of 3 months we were issued certificates. At the certificate ceremony, many of those who were issued certificates were in fact were employees of the institute,” alleged the girl on condition of anonymity. Another applicant from Zehra Nagar in Banjara Hills said that the institute provided basic training for 15 days and later they issued a certificate for 3 months training. When contacted, TSMFC MA Waheed said an inquiry would be conducted into the allegations against the training institute.
