Call to ensure win of BCs in PR elections

Update: 2019-01-15 05:30 IST

Musheerabad: In an open letter to the backward classes in the State, Telangana BC Welfare Association president Jajula Srinivas Goud on Monday appealed to ensure victory of BC candidates who are contesting the gram panchayat elections in the general seats, without considering their party affiliation.

His letter comes in the wake of the State government reducing the BC quota from 34 to 23 per cent despite BCs constituting more than 56 per cent of the population.

Goud explained that because of the reduced BC reservations, thousands of villages were now in the general category.

According to Goud, in the normal course, BCs should have got 4,335 out of 12, 751 gram panchayats; but now they have been allotted 2,345, thus depriving them 1,990 GPs.

‘If BCs , who have been deprived their rightful seats, have to emerge victorious as many as 5,147 general GPs have to be won by them’.
