Prefer Valmikis in award of works pleads VCWA

Tank Bund: Leaders of the ValimikiCommunity Welfare Association (VCWA) unveiled 2019 calendar at a programme held at Dr Ambedkar statue, Tank Bund on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion, Valmiki (Methara) community leader D Rajender Karam Veer Singh said they were brought by the erstwhile Hyderabad ruler Nizam two hundred years ago and have been engaged in the sanitation works in the city since then.

He lamented that they were being replaced by people coming from Bihar. He said with the emergence of new technology they were losing their employment and sanitation works were being handed over to big contractors. Singh demanded that the members of their community should be given first priority in the sanitation works, as in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh. He condemned delay in issuing SC certificates to their members at MRO offices.

He said the issue had been raised in Parliament by MP Asaduddin Owaisi and several union ministers promised to address the issue. He thanked the political leaders who are fighting for addressing their issues. The community leaders Satish Bhat, K Mahaveer Raj, K Samam Singh, T Ram Kumar, Dinesh Bhat, C Bhopal Madan and others were present on the occasion.
