​Hanamkonda: Teaching community should develop scientific outlook so as to impart scientific education effectively to students, suggested Marka Shankara Narayana, an assistant professor in physics at Pingle Government Degree College (Women).

He delivered a lecture at a seminar on the topic ‘Stephen Hawking-thoughts and research’, organised by Telangana Jana Vedika in Hanamkonda on Monday night. The event was presided over by the vedika convener Takkallapally Ramu and A Sudhakar.

Describing the British theoretical cosmologist and physicist Stephen Hawking as a greatest scientist the world could feel proud of, Narayana said there was a need for everyone in the society to learn and understand what the scientist had said.

He wanted the teaching community to draw inspiration from Hawking, who was regarded as one of the most brilliant theoretical physicists in history. Though diagnosed with motor neuron disease that robbed him of mobility and speech, his zeal to explore the universe has made him a great scientist.

When Hawking’s 134-page research paper on expanding universe was uploaded online, the site was crashed as the science lovers in huge numbers tried to download it. Such was the following he enjoyed in the scientific world, Narayana noted.

The scientists’ work on the origins and structure of the universe, from the Big Bang to black holes, revolutionised the field. His non-fiction books ‘A Brief History of Time’, ‘The Universe in a Nutshell’, ‘The Grand Design’ and others were the best-selling books.

Hawking was also greatly concerned about environmental degradation and wanted humankind makes collective efforts to arrest it as that future generations might enjoy a green world, Narayana explained. Kakatiya University SDLCE SC/ST Employees Association president k Bhasker and others were present.
