Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced that the state government will distribute one crore sarees to one crore women. The saree distribution will be launched on former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary on Wednesday.

At a review meeting held with senior officials along with Minister Seethakka on Tuesday, the Chief Minister instructed the officials to distribute the sarees to every eligible woman in the state. The sarees are being made entirely by handloom workers of Sircilla. In the wake of the delay in production, the Chief Minister instructed the officials to take up the distribution of sarees in two phases.

In the first phase, sarees will be distributed in the villages. The saree distribution will be completed by December 9 on “Telangana Thalli AvataranaDinotsavam”. In the second phase, sarees will be distributed in urban areas starting from March 1 and completed on March 8 on International Women’s Day.

Instructing the officials not to compromise on the quality of the sarees under any circumstances, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said that the use of technology is essential to ensure that the distribution of Indiramma sarees is transparent and to continuously monitor the distribution process.

On the occasion of Indira Gandhi’s birth anniversary on Wednesday at 12 noon, the Chief Minister will formally launch the distribution of Indiramma sarees after paying homage at the Indira Gandhi statue at Necklace Road. Later, the Chief Minister will address the gathering of women from rural areas through video conference from the Secretariat. State ministers, MLAs, and MLCs will participate in the video conference from the available Collectorates.
