Congress fails to capitalise on RTC staff strike

Update: 2019-11-11 01:36 IST

Hyderabad: Several leaders of the Congress are quite disappointed with the leadership for their attitude towards the RTC workers strike as BJP has been getting mileage out of it.

These leaders are sore with the Pradesh Congress Committee for leaving the field open to the BJP in RTC issue.

The Million March programme has exposed the lackadaisical approach of the Congress. Some leaders pointed out that BJP MPs and leaders showed aggression and defied the police barricades to reach the Tank Bund on Saturday, whereas no Congress leader was seen.

The issue was raised in the meeting of the Core Committee of the PCC held on Sunday. Some leaders have raised their voice against the attitude of the party on the RTC strike issue.

Ever since the RTC strike has begun, the Congress has been lagging behind. Except for participating in the JAC meetings and issuing statements in support of the striking workers, the Congress failed to execute its own plan.

On the other hand the few Congress leaders criticised the other leaders who have shown some interest in the movement and participated in some aggressive activities like laying siege to Pragathi Bhavan.

Several second rung leaders pointed out that Congress has been 'treating' RTC strike as BJP issue and keeping itself away from it. With this the BJP has been getting mileage out of it.

These leaders said that the internal politics of Congress is the reason for the lax approach towards the RTC strike. They said that the leadership is afraid of giving advantage to its opponents in the party.
