Mulugu: In the wake of deadly Papikondalu boat tragedy that claimed the lives of several people on Sunday, the Mulugu police on Tuesday inspected the boating facility at Ramappa Lake to assess the safety measures being taken by the boat operators.

The police verified the life jackets, fitness and permit certificates of the boats. Superintendent of Police Sangram Singh G Patil warned the boat operators to not run boats without proper fitness, permit and the licensed personnel.

"Even though the boating facility is being run by the tourism department, we will take action if they fail to fulfil the standard measures for the safety of tourists," he said. The SP appealed to the tourists to wear life jackets when they go on boat ride. Any sort of ignorance would endanger the lives of tourists, he said.
