Focus is on quality education: Errabelli Dayakar Rao

Jangaon: The number of BC welfare residential schools in Telangana region was just 16 in the undivided Andhra Pradesh. Since the bifurcation, the number of BC welfare residential schools in Telangana went up multifold, Minister for Panchayat Raj Errabelli Dayakar Rao said.

Inaugurating the Science Exhibition at the Mahatma Gandhi Jyotiba Phule Girls BC Welfare Residential School at Pembarthi near Jangaon on Thursday, the Minister said that the TRS government led by K Chandrashekar Rao is leaving no stone unturned to provide quality education to distressed sections.

"At an average, the government is spending Rs 1 lakh per annum towards providing food, accommodation and other facilities for each student studying in the residential schools," he said.

The idea behind establishing residential schools is that any investment in education pays rich dividends and it augurs well for the State, Errabelli said, referring to KCR's vision. He said that the government had opened 119 BC residential schools, one in each Assembly constituency, in the State this year.

In all around 83,700 students are pursuing their education in 269 BC welfare residential schools across the State, he said. In erstwhile Warangal district there are 29 BC welfare residential schools, of which 15 for boys and 14 for girls.

Besides imparting quality education, the government is also providing textbooks, notebooks, uniforms, bedsheets etc to the inmates, he said. The number of students in these schools is 10,720, the Minister said. With these schools started to yield good results, the demand for seats has also gone up, he added.

Minister Errabelli said that science exhibitions help students in their quest for innovation. The aim is to inculcate a scientific temper among students. The knowledge acquired should benefit the society, he told

the students. "As our country is predominantly agriculture-based, there was an imperative need to come up with innovations that help farmers," Errabelli said.

Jangaon MLA Muthireddy Yadagiri Reddy and Zilla Praja Parishad Chairman Pagala Sampath Reddy were among others present.
