Hyderabad: BC leaders leave for 'Chalo Delhi' rally in Musheerabad

Musheerabad: Responding to the call given by BC welfare association, hundreds of BC leaders from Musheerabad, Kacheguda and Amberpet left for New Delhi by various trains on Monday to participate in 'Chalo Delhi' protest, demanding 50 per cent reservations to BCs in legislative bodies.

Speaking on the occasion, BC leaders said that they would meet various national leaders, including opposition leaders, central ministers and prime minister, apart from participating in protest in front of Parliament.

Speaking after flagging off the rally at Amberpet crossroads, R Krishnaiah, the president of BC Welfare Association, criticised the governments for turning BCs as 'beggars' as injustice was being done to them for the last 72 years since independence in various sectors. He appealed BC leaders of various political parties to come forward and lead them in their fight for BC rights. He called for a nation-wide movement to pressurize the central government to give 50 per cent reservation to BCs in legislative bodies. He said that sample form for enumerating data for Census has columns for collecting details about SCs, STs and minorities but there was no column for collecting caste-wise details of BCs. He lamented that BCs were not getting their share of reservation in pachayatraj bodies. Due to lack of proper data on BCs, BC women were finding it difficult to avail of various rural development schemes, he lamented.

BC leaders Gujja Krishna, Neela Venkatesh, Ananthaiah, Ramkoti, Vemula Ramakrishna, Chandrashekhar Goud, M Venkatesh, Gorla Ramdev and others were present.
