Hyderabad: Cops arrest five cyber fraudsters from Jharkhand

Hyderabad: The Cyber Crime Police, Cyberabad on Wednesday arrested a five- member gang of cyber fraudsters from Jamtara district of Jharkhand State for cheating a person to the tune of more than Rs 5 lakh by procuring his internet banking credentials by sending phishing Google link.

The accused were identified as Ram Kumar Mandal, Jamruddin Ansari, Jitendra Mandal, Birendar Kumar Mandal, Rohit Raj, while the prime accused Sanjay Kumar Mandal is absconding. According to Cyberabad Police Commissioner, VC Sajjanar, on October 23, 2019, a complaint was lodged by an eminent doctor stating that October 21, 2019 she received a message on her mobile phone that her debit card is going to be blocked.

The message asked her to visit the link sent on her mobile phone and instructed her to enter the KYC details of her bank account. Upon which she entered all her bank account details including the internet banking details in the link of Google view form received on her mobile.

After which multiple transactions were taken place in her account and an amount of Rs 5,29,000 was transferred to different e-wallets on the next day. On receipt of the complaint, police registered a case and took up investigation.

Investigation revealed that Sanjay Kumar Mandal was the mastermind of the crime. He sends bulk messages online. If anyone responds to the message by opening the Google view form link and furnish his bank account details believing the same to be genuine.

The accused transfers the amounts from the account of victim to different mobile e-wallets. After which they purchase online gift vouchers from renowned stores. Later, the said gift vouchers are redeemed by purchasing gold ornaments and electronics goods.

By connecting the dots, Cybercrime police nabbed the five members of the gang, while the prime accused Sanjay is absconding. Officials seized Rs 2,66,000, 12 gram gold chain and six mobile phones from their possession.
