Hyderabad: Historic Gulzar Houz to breathe life soon

Charminar: The facelift of the historic water fountain at 'Gulzar Houz' near Charminar to be taken up soon and it would be 'a welcome point' of Charminar.

The Gulzar Houz fountain also known as Char-Su-Ka-Houz (fountain of the four cardinal directions) was constructed in the middle of the four arches during Qutub Shahi dynasty. This historic structure lacking maintenance had not only suffered damages, it has been virtually converted into a waste bin. One can observe that algae has also accumulated in the ancient water fountain.

Hundreds of tourists including foreigners visit Hyderabad for the marvellous cynosure of the glorious past era, they visit Chowmahalla Palace, Falaknuma Palace, Salar Jung Museum etc. in Old City. When they visit the historic 400-year-old monument Charminar and Gulzar Houz, they find no beautification around the Charminar premises.

After their several attempts the authorities have initiated the beautification of Gulzar Houz and it would be 'a welcome point of Charminar pedestrian zone'.

Speaking to The Hans India Pathargatti division corporator Syed Sohail Quadri said that he requested GHMC Zonal Commissioner (south) Ashok Samrat for the inspection of Gulzar Houz for its restoration works.

"On February 26, he along with ZC, Deputy Commissioner Surya Kumar, ACP Traffic G Naganna and other officers inspected the Gulzar Houz and ensured that the beautification and renovation works of Gulzar Houz will be taken up earliest and it will be made a welcome point of Charminar," he added.

He said that during inspection ZC instructed the concerned officer to take up beautification works as early as possible. Sohail Quadri said the works would be taken up next week, and the concerned officials are trying their best to complete the beautification works earliest.

Sohail Quadri said the ZC also ensures about the beautification of roads starting from Madina Building near Nayapul to Charminar would be taken up and LED lights would be installed. The GHMC and other officers were trying their best for the beautification of roads, he added.
