NMDC celebrates International Women's Day

Hyderabad: NMDC's week-long festivities honouring and presenting mementoes to the women culminated on Saturday with the celebration of International Women's Day at the NMDC headquarters. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest, T Meena Kumari, Retired Chief Justice of Meghalaya, said, "Even today there is no gender equality in the society. Women need to find their own way in this male dominated society. They should be motivated for growth & empowerment and they are equally competent in almost every field as men.

Motivating the women employees on this occasion, N Baijendra Kumar, CMD, NMDC, said "Women empowerment is the founding stone of society. I congratulate team NMDC who have put in a lot of thought and effort to celebrate this special day and womanhood. This initiative will be another steppingstone towards the objective of #HarEkKaamDeshKeNaam and showcase the #IspatiIrada of women of NMDC. Education and literacy are most important for women empowerment. To sustain this #IspatiIrada we have already initiated "happiness program" in NMDC. I believe a country is successful if its women are safe, strong and successful."

He said that NMDC was providing opportunities through CSR programmes such as Balika Shiksha Yojana and skill development and it started 'Men Take Lead' programme to create awareness among women and young girls to counter poor and menstrual hygiene practices in the tribal areas.

The functional directors of NMDC PK Satpathy, Director (Production) Amitava Mukherjee, Director (Finance), Alok Kumar Mehta, Director (Commercial), Sumit Deb, Director (Personnel) also emphasised the importance of women in every man's life and how women entrepreneurs were leading many organisations particularly in banking sector.

Prior to this GE Reeta, DGM(HRD) presented brief report on week long programs being organised.

During the week, NMDC organised several programmes such as fruit distribution at Kasthurba Ashram – A home for destitute women, games, yoga/health wellness, display of awareness posters and slogans, felicitation of nursing students being trained under Balika Shiksha Yojana and arranging motivational talks. Several renowned speakers shared their views on the theme of International Women's Day 2020 i.e. 'I am Generation Equality: Realizing Women's Rights.' The event ended with various cultural programmes performed by women employees. (NSS)
