Hyderabad: TPCC president Uttam Kumar Reddy says Speak up India a big hit

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress claimed tremendous response to the call given by All India Congress Committee to take up social media campaign under the slogan 'Speak Up India' in support of sections that have been hit by lockdown due to the coronavirus spread.

TPCC president N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the nationwide 'Speak Up India' online campaign undertaken by the Congress party on Thursday received tremendous response in Telangana. The AICC urged the Congress leaders and workers all over the country to participate in the social media campaign by posting messages in support of migrant workers, MSME sector, and other sections. It told the rank and file of Congress to raise certain demands.

Speaking to media persons, Uttam Kumar Reddy informed that over 1.5 lakh Congress leaders and workers across Telangana went live on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, etc, to convey a common message that the Central government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi should help the poor people who were affected due to unplanned lockdown. "As per the directions of Congress president Sonia Gandhi, we all demanded that the Centre provide immediate cash assistance of Rs 10,000 and also Rs 7,500 per month to all poor families for the next six months. We urged the government to ensure safe and free travel of migrant workers to their native places without further delay. We also demanded that the work days under MNREGA be extended to 200 days to facilitate jobs in rural areas," he added.

Party leaders claimed that the strategy of the PCC president to ensure the success of the programme received tremendous response. Uttam held video conferences with all the leaders on the programme.

Congress MP A Revanth Reddy, PCC treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy, former PCC presidents Ponnala Laxmaiah, V Hanumantha Rao, AICC official spokesperson Dasoju Sravan, Congress front organization leaders, MLAs, former MPs and MLAs, district Congress presidents participated in the social media campaign.

In his message, PCC treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy said that former president of Congress alerted the government on the consequences of the spread of Coronavirus in February.

The warnings were ignored by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao. Later unplanned lockdown was imposed and economy lost lakhs of crores of rupees and crores lost jobs.
