Secunderabad: Quadrupling of railway line by Secunderabad Central Railway (SCR) between Moulali-Ghatkesar has been completed and commissioned successfully. With the commissioning of the section on March 11, congestion would reduce to a great extent.

The new double line has been constructed between Moulali and Ghatkesar for a distance of 12.2 km in addition to the existing double line along with electrification and automatic signalling. This quadrupling has been done as part of MMTS Phase-II project at a cost of Rs 200 crore.

The Moulali-Ghatkesar section is the first quadrupled electrified automatic signalling section in the SCR.

Moulali-Ghatkesar section is important rail line connecting Secunderabad, Kazipet, Nadikude (Guntur) and Sanathnagar (bypass chord line) with heavy congestion due to multiple operations of passenger and freight trains.

To ease the congestion and also to operate suburban trains in this section, the railway line has been quadrupled by adding 2 more new lines. The 4 lines will be used to operate train services to and fro between Moulali and Ghatkesar. Since this section is fully automatic, more number of trains can be operated as compared to existing conventional signaling system.

As a part of quadrupling, two additional platforms each have been constructed at Cherlapalli and Ghatkesar stations. In addition, new station buildings have been constructed at Moulali C cabin, Cherlapalli and Ghatkesar stations. Completion of the entire project will provide direct rail connectivity to the residents of eastern parts of the twin cities to reach Hi-Tec City, Lingampally, Patancheru, Falaknuma and other suburban areas at an economical price.

Gajanan Mallya, General Manager, SCR has complimented the Railway Officials, RVNL authorities for successful commissioning of first ever quadruple electrified automatic signalling line between Moulali and Ghatkesar stations. He opined that commissioning of this new line will ease the congestion on the saturated section between Moulali - Ghatkesar rail line enabling smooth and punctual operation of train services in both passenger and freight segment.
