10 beneficiaries receive free prosthetic hands in Anantapur
Nandyal: Ten beneficiaries from Nandyal district received free artificial limbs at a prosthetic hand distribution camp organized jointly by the Andhra Pradesh Red Cross Society and Rotary Red Cross in Anantapur on Sunday.
The initiative formed part of a broader series of region-wise medical drives conducted by the Red Cross Society to provide functional prosthetic assistance to individuals who have lost their hands.
Supported by the management of Gururaja English Medium School, 15 prospective beneficiaries from Nandyal district were transported to the Anantapur venue for clinical assessment and custom fitting under the direct supervision of Nandyal Red Cross District Field Officer (DFO) Abdullah.
Speaking on the occasion, Red Cross Chairman Dastagiri Parl stated that advanced prosthetic hands worth approximately ₹30,000 each were distributed free of cost to 10 eligible beneficiaries following detailed evaluations by medical experts.
He explained that these artificial limbs are specifically designed for individuals possessing five to ten inches of residual limb below the elbow.
The prosthetics enable users to perform routine daily chores independently, including lifting weights up to five kilograms, thereby enhancing their personal mobility and expanding their livelihood opportunities.
Expressing gratitude, Dastagiri Parl thanked the management of Gururaja English Medium School for providing logistical support to facilitate the participation of candidates from Nandyal.
He emphasized that such humanitarian programs play a crucial role in empowering persons with limb loss, restoring their dignity, and helping them lead self-reliant lives.
Representatives from both the Red Cross Society and Rotary International attended the presentation ceremony.
