Nearly 10,000 sanitation workers and ward secretariat staff are attending Covid duties in Vijayawada city

Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has decided to arrange buses for the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation to help the sanitation workers and the ward secretariats' staff to attend the duties.

So far, the VMC is using 12 buses belonging to private educational institutions for the convenience of staff to attend the duty. Nearly 10,000 sanitation workers and ward secretariat staff are attending the duties in the city. Keeping in view the problems being faced by the staff in the lockdown period, Municipal Commissioner Prasanna Venkatesh has requested the RTC to provide buses.

During the meeting organised at the Collector's camp office on Tuesday, Transport Minister Perni Nani, RTC Regional Manager G Nagendra Prasad, Municipal Commissioner Prasanna Venkatesh and others discussed the requirements of the VMC.

Perni Nani has said the RTC will give co-operation to the VMC during the lockdown period and will arrange buses. APSRTC Managing Director M Pratap Reddy said the RTC has no objection if the VMC arranges drivers to operate the buses and praised the services of the VMC sanitation workers to check the spread of Covid-19 in the city.
