Vijayawada: APGENCO Managing Director and Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) S Nagalakshmi has called upon people to make eco-friendly practices an integral part of their daily lives, stressing that environmental protection requires collective responsibility and sustained individual efforts. In a statement issued in Vijayawada on Sunday on the occasion of the BRICS Sustainable Lifestyle Week (BSLW), being observed from November 1 to 7 as part of India’s BRICS Presidency in 2026, she said meaningful environmental change could be achieved only when people adopted responsible habits in their everyday activities.

The week-long initiative is being organised in line with the Central Government’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) to raise awareness and encourage people to adopt sustainable practices. Nagalakshmi emphasised the need to conserve electricity and water, reduce plastic consumption and manage waste responsibly.

Seven days, seven focus areas

The week-long campaign will focus on seven key themes under Mission LiFE. These include adopting healthy lifestyles on the first day, saving energy on the second, conserving water on the third, promoting sustainable food practices on the fourth, reducing single-use plastics on the fifth, minimising electronic waste on the sixth and reducing general waste on the seventh. Nagalakshmi said an action plan had been circulated to officials of APGENCO, APTRANSCO, APCPDCL, APEPDCL, APSPDCL and APSECM. They had been instructed to conduct awareness programmes at the field level with the active participation of employees, students and local communities.

She said APSECM would collect details and photographs of the activities conducted each day and upload them to the national Mission LiFE portal to document implementation and encourage wider public participation.

Stressing that the initiative should not remain a one-time campaign, Nagalakshmi urged officials and employees to lead by example by conserving electricity in offices, preventing water wastage, segregating waste and promoting reusable materials.
