Mangalagiri: Perfect planning, duty-mindedness, precautions and wonderful coordination of the Police department with all the departments resulted in peaceful and successful conduct of elections, said Director General of Police Gautam D Sawang here on Wednesday.

The DGP said that barring stray incidents, the people participated in the polling with enthusiasm in good numbers taking the percentage of polling to high level. He said that stern action would be taken against some people who wantonly indulged in unlawful activities. Much to the apprehensions of people that there would be trouble in the polling, it has been peaceful due to the efforts of the Police department.

The police force did not yield to any pressure from any quarter in enforcing the law and order during the elections giving confidence to the people by and large, he added.

The DGP said that he is proud of the police force that helped the aged, physically challenged and others in exercising their franchise. "The police are now more service-oriented," he said.

Comparing with the earlier elections, he added that the clashes during this election was negligible and highlighted the precautions taken by the police like booking bind-over cases against the troublemakers, preventing distribution of liquor and money to induce the voters with the help of Special Enforcement Bureau.

The DGP complimented all the departments for providing better coordination to the police in the conducting of the elections as per the directions of the State Election Commission.
