CPM promises houses for transgenders
Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Ch Babu Rao, supported by CPI and Jana Sena, assured the transgender community here on Tuesday that if the alliance forms government, every transgender would be provided with a house.
Vijayawada: Communist Party of India (Marxist) candidate Ch Babu Rao, supported by CPI and Jana Sena, assured the transgender community here on Tuesday that if the alliance forms government, every transgender would be provided with a house.
He was addressing the hundreds of transgender persons in 59th division in the city on Tuesday. Expressing concern over the pathetic life they have been leading and facing discrimination at every step, Babu Rao said that a special enactment would be made for their protection from harassment in the society.
He said that the rents in the city have gone manifold much to the discomfort of common people and no house owner would let their houses to the transgender persons. He underlined the importance of forming a separate corporation for their welfare. Jana Sena leader Balisetti Vamsikrishna appealed to the transgender persons to vote for the CPM candidate supported by CPI and the Jana Sena.
Several transgender persons said that they have been a neglected lot and no politician would every thought of providing any facilities for them. They expressed solidarity with the candidature of Babu Rao and vowed that they would vote for him. CPM leaders K Durga Rao, Narasimha, G Jhansi, Chakka Narasimha Rao, G Kotaiah, Lata and Transgender leaders Sweta, Haseenamma, Padma, Navya and others were present.
