The Prakasam district was fully prepared to handle and survive any natural disasters like cyclones, earthquakes and floods, District Collector Dr Pola Bhaskara told the US Consulate officials here on Thursday.

In the meeting held in his chamber with them on Thursday, the Collector explained to the US Embassy Vice-consular Jacob D Dinerman and consular assistant Manasa Gondela that the district has 11 mandals along the coastal line.

He said that following the alerts and updates about cyclones from the meteorological department, preparations were being made to see no loss of lives and assets occur in the area. He explained the concerned departments will alert the public and shift them to safe places early in case of cyclones and the revenue department will provide all necessary arrangements in the emergency situation.

He said that disaster management department will shift the people affected by the floods through the boats while the electricity department makes sure power restored in the affected areas. He explained that the coastal villages are in parallel with the coastline so that there is only a slight chance of floods in the area.

Jacob D Dinerman and Manasa Gondela said that they visited Ongole to know about the preparations and precautions being followed in the coastal region to save people during natural disasters like cyclones and floods.

The trainee collector Suraj Dhanunjay, DRO Venkata Subbaiah, Joint Director Agriculture Srirama Murthy, JD Animal Husbandry department Ravindranath Tagore, RWS SE Sanjeeva Reddy, DEO Subbarao, DSO Venkateswarlu, DMHO Vindo Kumar, TransCo SE Subbaraju, Ongole RDO Penchala Kishore, Kandukur RDO Obulesu and others also participated in the program.
