Flood victims left in the lurch: Naidu
Expresses surprise over failure of officials to start enumeration of losses even after one week since floods wreaked havoc in various parts
Guntur: TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu criticised that the government had failed in coming to the rescue of people, especially farmers, reeling under impact of floods. He visited the flooded agriculture fields in Vellaturu, Kishindapalem,Chintapotu, Pedalanka, Poturlanka and Juvvalapalem villages under Vemuru Assembly constituency in the district on Wednesday. The former chief minister interacted with the farmers whose crop was damaged in the floods and enquired about the quantum of loss.
Speaking on this occasion, Naidu expressed surprise over official teams not visiting flood-hit areas even after one week despite crops in 50,000 acre were damaged by floods.
The TDP chief faulted the government for not taking steps to fill the reservoirs though they were empty and warned of taking up agitation to mount pressure on the state government to do justice to farmers. Observing that there would have no chance of floods if the floodwater was released in a systematic manner, he described the floods as "government-created calamity".
Naidu alleged that the YSRCP government had hatched a conspiracy to inundate his house and Amaravati, but instead it caused huge losses to farmers by destroying crops in large area. He reminded that during the floods, he had stayed in the flood-hit villages and supervised the relief measures.
The former CM criticised that people in the flooded villages in Krishna and Guntur districts had been facing severe problems but Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was touring the US. He demanded that the government extend helping hand to the flood victims irrespective of politics.
