Tirupati: With an objective of providing modern amenities, the state government has come forward with a flagship programme 'Mana Badi Nadu-Nedu'. The idea was to improve the government schools on par with private schools by providing better conditions for the students.

The new government announced that it is going to accord top priority to education sector. Mana Badi Nadu Nedu was a programme towards fulfilling that goal. Under the scheme, all 4,900 schools in the district are to be improved in a phased manner.

In the first phase 1,504 schools are selected in all constituencies and the programme was launched on Thursday. The education department and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) officials have geared up to implement the scheme.

Facilities such as construction of computer labs, compound wall, separate toilets for girls and boys with water facility, electrical facility with lights and fans, drinking water, furniture, class rooms according to the student strength and other things will be taken up. There will be no black boards in schools, instead green boards will be set up.

Next year another 1504 schools will be taken up under the scheme. Mandal education officers will monitor the implementation of the scheme in their respective jurisdictions and parents committees will also play a very important role.

In Tirupati, the programme was inaugurated by district In-charge Minister M Goutham Reddy at a programme organised in ZP High School, Mangalam. Deputy Chief Minister K Narayana Swamy, Chandragiri MLA and Government Whip Chevireddy Bhaskar Reddy, Collector Dr N Bharat Gupta, DEO Narasimha Reddy, SSA PO P Venkata Ramana Reddy and others also participated in the programme.
