Vijayawada: As many as 225 hotels in Vijayawada would log out of Swiggy portal indefinitely starting from November 11, said the members of Vijayawada Hotel Owners Association.

Announcing the decision at a media conference here on Wednesday, Association president P Ravi Kumar said one-and-half years back, online food delivery portals like Swiggy, Zomato, Uber Eats and others started their business with restaurants in Vijayawada.

Ravi Kumar said initially they started their business with zero per cent commission, and then they charged 5 per cent, later 10 per cent and now they were charging 18 per cent.

Now, after registering growth in their business, he said they were pressing the restaurant owners to increase the commission to 25 per cent which is practically not feasible. Apart from commissions, he said these firms were also charging cancellation charges, telephone charges and many other hidden charges.

Association member M Madhu said that Swiggy was giving fancy offers to the customers and delivering food from kitchens which do not have proper food safety licences keeping the health of customers at risk.
