Kurnool: Eight passengers sustained serious injuries in a road accident that took place on the National Highway-44 near Dhone on Saturday. All the injured were women and residents of Mallepalle village under the constituency.

Acting on the tip-off, the police rushed to the spot and shifted the injured to Dhone hospital for treatment.

According to Dhone Circle Inspector Subramaniam, around 13 women of self-help group boarded an auto to head to bank in Dhone from their village Mallepalle. When the auto reached Mallepalle cross to enter Dhone town from the National Highway, a lorry coming in the opposite direction hit the auto with high speed.

In the mishap, eight persons received grievous injuries and the auto was totally damaged. The seriously injured were identified as T Lakshmi Devi, E Rangamma, J Eshwaramma, S Arunaamma, Y Yashoda, T Rathnalu, V Parvathamma and V Madhakka and the others received minor injuries.

All injured were immediately rushed to Dhone hospital for treatment. After extending primary aid to the critically injured, they were referred to Kurnool government general hospital for better treatment, stated the CI. The lorry driver was taken into custody besides detaining the lorry.

A case has been filed under relevant sections and took up investigation. The women were on their way to Dhone to get subsidy on loan amount sanctioned by the state government, added the CI.
