Paderu: Construction of a five-span high-level bridge at Mettaguda village in Lakshmipuram gram panchayat of Munchingiputtu mandal in Alluri Sitarama Raju district began on Wednesday under the Pradhan Mantri Janjatiya Adivasi Nyaya Maha Abhiyan (PM-JANMAN) scheme.
The bridge has been sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 385.88 lakh. Officials commenced excavation works for the abutment foundations as part of the project. The bridge is aimed at improving connectivity to tribal habitations in the Lakshmipuram gram panchayat area and ensuring that villages do not remain cut off during the monsoon when streams are in spate. Officials said the project would provide permanent road connectivity to the surrounding tribal villages.
Engineering officials and contractors were directed to complete the bridge within the stipulated time while maintaining quality standards.
They said the project would address the long-standing transportation difficulties faced by residents of Mettaguda and nearby tribal villages. Paderu PIU EE S Ramakrishna, Munchingiputtu AE Murali and other staff participated in the programme.
