Bapatla: Agriculture Minister K Atchannaidu directed officials to take advance measures to protect farmers and livestock owners from possible drought-like conditions due to the impact of Super El Niño.
During his visit to Bapatla Agriculture College on Monday, he spoke to Bapatla district collector Dr V Vinod Kumar and discussed the precautionary measures to be taken to safeguard the agriculture and animal husbandry sectors in the backdrop of deficit rainfall. He directed officials to assess fodder requirements in advance and ensure timely supply to prevent any shortage for livestock. He instructed them to assess the available fodder resources and coordinate with the Animal Husbandry Department officials to supply fodder to areas facing shortages.
He said available water resources should be utilised efficiently to protect standing crops.
He directed the Agriculture, Irrigation and Animal Husbandry departments to work in coordination and review the situation periodically and take all necessary steps to prevent difficulties in the agriculture and livestock sectors.
