Visakhapatnam: The State government is taking all measures to set up a medical college for each parliamentary constituency, said Tourism and Culture Minister Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao here on Friday.

Speaking to media after attending a conference in VUDA, the Minister said about 40 lakh people have been benefited under the Aarogyasri health scheme after Jagan Mohan Reddy became Chief Minister and Rs 100 crore was spent on the scheme and added that the government was keen on providing healthcare to all sections of people.

Srinivasa Rao said 41 ambulances were available to the public to transport patients to hospitals from various places across the district. He explained that the blood storage centre in Paderu was set up at a cost of Rs 75.25 lakh.

The Minister stated that the government had issued a directive to set up a medical college in Paderu, which will be set up in 35 acres to provide medical services to the tribal people. Similarly, steps are being taken to set up a medical college in Anakapalle too.

He said the government was taking all steps to provide basic facilities in hospitals and provide medical services to the poor. The government intends to develop the state on all fronts, he said.

The meeting was attended by Araku MP G Madhavi, MLAs Tippala Nagi Reddy, Adeep Raj, Chetty Phalguna, Joint Collector Arun Babu, DCCB Chairman Sukumara Verma, Andhra Medical College Principal P V Sudhakar and District Medical and Health Officer S Tirupathi Rao.
