Pithapuram: State Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan said his objective was to develop Pithapuram as a model constituency by focusing on the needs and aspirations of the people. Speaking at a public meeting at RRBHR College grounds on Tuesday, he said development works worth Rs 1,500 crore were being launched or taken up in the constituency, with priority to roads, drinking water, sanitation, healthcare and other basic infrastructure.
He said more than Rs 200 crore had already been spent on roads and over 600 CC and BT roads completed. Another 202 roads were inaugurated on the occasion. Drinking water works worth about Rs 320 crore were being taken up in villages, while works worth around Rs 140 crore were being implemented in Pithapuram and Gollaprolu municipalities.
An underground drainage system was being taken up in Pithapuram at a cost of Rs 225 crore, along with sewage treatment plants, a wet waste treatment plant and public toilet blocks. Rs 323 crore had been approved for a protective wall along the Uppada coast to address coastal erosion, he said. Approval had also been obtained for a Rs 118-crore road over bridge under PM Gati Shakti. Development works were also planned for the Pithapuram railway station, healthcare facilities and an Ayush medical college.
Pawan Kalyan said 1,258 fishermen were provided safety kits and assistance was extended to fishermen through dry fish units and other equipment. Cheques relating to Rs 120 crore in loans were distributed to women self-help groups.
Pawan Kalyan said his commitment to standing by people in difficult times was a value taught by the people of Pithapuram. He added that arrangements would be made to establish his camp office in Pithapuram within the next three to four months. District collector MN Harendhira Prasad said the district administration was committed to the comprehensive development of Pithapuram and was working in accordance with the Deputy Chief Minister’s objectives.
