Various institutes and organisations hold special programmes to propagate the importance of yoga

The 8th International Yoga Day has been celebrated on a grand note in Tirupati on Tuesday.

Tirupati : The 8th International Yoga Day has been celebrated on a grand note in Tirupati on Tuesday.

At National Sanskrit University (NSU), Vice-Chancellor Prof Radhakant Thakur performed Pooja to the statue of Patanjali Maharshi and took part in the yoga programme. Speaking on the occasion, he said that India has gifted the Yoga Sastra to the entire mankind.

By performing yoga the people can get rid of mental and physical diseases and lead a healthy life. The NSU has been trying to make 'Swachh Tirupati – Swastha Tirupati', he said. Registrar Commander Challa Venkateswar, Prof Ramesh Chandra panda, Dr Lakshmi Narayana, other faculty and students took part. An awareness rally on Yoga was also held.

Siddha Clinical Research Unit (SCRU), Tirupati, observed the yoga day with the support of SVIMS in which about 400 students and faculty participated and performed yoga. Prof V Vanajakshamma, Prof K Uma Maheswara Rao, Dr Sharvani, in-charge of SCRU Dr K Samraj and others took part. Elocution, essay-writing, drawing and yogasana competitions were held and prizes were distributed to the winners.

Sri City community observed the day in which DSP Jagadish Nayak, yoga master V Chandra Sekhar, K Bharava Krishna and others including 130 participants took part. They performed asanas, Surya Namaskarams and breathing exercises.

At a programme organised at SV Medical College, Principal Dr Chandrasekharan explained the benefits of yoga in keeping good health. Dr AS Kireeti and other faculty, students and others took part. Another programme was held at Model rural health research unit at Chandragiri in which head of Community Medicine department Dr G Ravi Prabhu, Dr Yugandhar, Dr Sowmya Pallavi, Dr UV Prasad and others participated.

SV Zoological Park also held a special programme on the occasion in which curator M Hima Sailaja, assistant curator Madhava Rao and others took part. RASS director Nagaraju participated in the programme organised at Om Santhi museum of Brahma Kumaris. Brahma Kumaris Andhra, Karnataka sub-zonal in-charge BK Leela Behan and others took part. SV Veterinary University also conducted yoga day celebrations in which Associate Dean Dr Nageswar Rao and yoga expert Prathima Reddy addressed the students.

The day was also celebrated at ST Colony in Anna Rao circle. We Support founder and Pyramid Dhyana Mandir yoga teacher Tahseen Begum made the participants perform various asanas. Pensioners Association conducted the programme in which T Gopal, Muralinath Gupta, T Siddaiah, Sankar, C Venkatesam Setty and others participated.
