Vijayawada: Atheist leader Dr Vijayam no more
Dr Goparaju Vijayam, executive director of the Atheist Centre, environmentalist and reformer died after brief illness. He was 86. He is survived by only son.
Vijayawada: Dr Goparaju Vijayam, executive director of the Atheist Centre, environmentalist and reformer died after brief illness. He was 86. He is survived by only son.
Vijayam was the second son of atheist leader Goparaju Ramachandra Rao popularly known as Gora. A doctorate degree holder in political science from Andhra University, Dr Vijayam studied in Machilipatnam, Vijayawada and the United States of America. He had been instrumental in running various institutions of the Atheist Centre including Gora Abhay Nivas, Gora Science Centre, Arthik Samata Mandal and Sanskar. He had been the executive director of the Atheist Centre after the demise of Gora in 1975. His son Vikas Gora is the deputy director of the South Indian chapter of the Save the Children.
