So far, lockdown 4.0 has been completed and lock down 5.0 will continue till June 30. In this backdrop, the Central government has lifted restrictions on activities like attending religious congregations and holy places. Besides, permission is also given for the inter-Srate bus services in the country.
With the lifting of lockdown restrictions and guidelines being changed in the State, there is possibility of increase in coronavirus cases in the State. The Union government has announced Lockdown 5.0 till June 30. But, the State government has the choice in implementation of lockdown guidelines. It is expected thousands of people mostly stranded workers, students, employees and others stranded in other States may return to the State from June 1 onwards with special trains run by the Railways. In all, 14 special trains pass via Vijayawada railway station.
Though the Railways conduct thermal screening and other tests at the railway station at the time of boarding and alighting there is scope that positive persons can travel in the trains. In some cases, Covid-19 positive persons did not show symptoms like fever, cough, cold and headache etc. There are many cases where the infected people don't show any symptoms and yet they are transmitting the virus to others. There is a possibility of those travelling from other States carrying the virus.
The Union government also accorded permission for inter-State bus services in the country. If AP government reaches agreement with other States, there is a possibility that a large number of people from other States may come back to the State.
It may be noted that cumulative positive cases in foreign returnees are 111 and cumulative positive cases in patients coming from other States are 418.
