Low pressure area over east central and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal persists Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted at a few places in Coastal districts

Visakhapatnam: From being cloudy in the morning to afternoon, several places in Visakhapatnam witnessed rain in the evening as South West monsoon has advanced into entire Andhra Pradesh on Thursday.

The low pressure area over east central and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal persists and now lies over west central, North west Bay of Bengal along and off North Andhra and south Odisha coastal.

It is likely to move west-northwest wards associated with upper air cyclonic circulation, extending up to 7.6 km above sea level. Under its influence, rain or thundershowers are likely to occur at most places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh with heavy to very heavy rainfall in a few places over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and extremely heavy rain at few places for the next 24 hours in the same region, according to the IMD forecast.

It further said that strong surface winds from north-westerly direction with a speed reaching 45 to 50 kmph is likely along and off North Andhra Coast during the next 24 hours. A number of low-lying areas in the district was inundated due to the downpour.
