Visakhapatnam: About 600 tribal families affected by Maoists took out a rally at Maddigaruvu by holding placards. The placards displayed the extent to which they had suffered in their lives due to the Maoist movement.

Some of the placards read 'dear Maoist please let us live peacefully,' 'please don't kill our family members,' 'please don't stop the development of the region' and 'we want education and road facilities in our area' and 'don't stop the installation of cell phone towers'.

They expressed their protest against the Maoist movement through such messages on the placards. The tribals expressed resentment over the manner in which the members of the Maoist movement continue to kill their family members cruelly in spite of saying that they were in support of the tribal development.

The tribals further said that such honey-coated words will no longer be believed by the tribal communities as whoever expressed resentment was targeted, the tribals stated. Some of them said that when they stop giving money to the Maoists, they will be branded as 'informers' and killed, instilling fear in them permanently.

According to the police, the Maoists have already lost support in the Girijan-dominated areas but with survival instinct they were trying to prove a point. The cops said that the Agency area was getting all types of development, but the Maoists were spreading false propaganda that there was lack of development in the region and obstructing all the government activities to improve it further.
