Visakhapatnam District police destroyed 63,879 kg of ganja seized from various smugglers under different police station limits in the past.
Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam District police destroyed 63,879 kg of ganja seized from various smugglers under different police station limits in the past.
The ganja was burnt at Kapuluppada dumping yard in the presence of drug disposal committee on Friday and was estimated to be worth Rs 13 crore. In the last 10 years, 455 cases were registered in 13 police station limits and a huge quantity was stored during the period.
The number of cases registered in each police station is as follows: Paderu—89, Hukkumpeta mandal—22, Munchingput –22 and Peda Bayalu--16, among others.
As per the court orders, the drug disposal committee members – DIG Visakhapatnam Range LKV Ranga Rao, Visakhapatnam SP Attada Babujee and Deputy Prohibition and Excise D Srinivasa Rao monitored the process of weighing the banned material and setting it afire as per the procedure.
The highest quantities were seized in G Madugula 13,368 kg, Rolugonta 8,967 kg and Kothakota 7879 kg. In last February, 11,493 kg of ganja pertaining to 85 cases were burnt at Marikavalasa dump yard for the first time.
