Hyderabad tops metros in hiring growth at 23%
Mumbai: India’s white-collar hiring rose 14 per cent year-on-year in August, driven by strong recruitment across sectors such as auto, healthcare and retail, according to the Naukri JobSpeak report released on Tuesday.
The Naukri JobSpeak Index, which tracks hiring activity based on job postings and recruiter searches on the platform, rose to 3,028 in August from 2,664 in the year-ago month.
Hiring growth was broad-based across IT and non-IT sectors and different experience levels. However, Info Edge (India) Managing Director and CEO Hitesh Oberoi cautioned that the figures need to be viewed in the context of the festive calendar, with a larger portion of the festive period falling in August last year and shifting to September this year.
“We will have a clearer view of the underlying hiring trend as we move through the festive quarter,” Oberoi said.
Among sectors, the auto industry recorded 19 per cent growth, followed by healthcare at 16 per cent and retail at 15 per cent. Insurance hiring grew 12 per cent, IT 11 per cent, banking and FMCG 10 per cent each, while BPO/ITES, oil and gas and real estate recorded 8 per cent growth each. Pharma and biotech hiring remained flat, while hospitality and travel declined 4 per cent and education fell 8 per cent.
Fresher hiring increased 15 per cent, while recruitment in the 4-7 years experience category grew 10 per cent. Hiring rose 16 per cent for those with 8-12 years of experience, 18 per cent for 13-16 years and 13 per cent for those with more than 16 years.
Among metros, Hyderabad led hiring growth at 23 per cent, followed by Kolkata at 22 per cent and Chennai at 20 per cent.
