With the festive season underway, bank customers across India should plan their transactions carefully, as several branches will remain closed for Dussehra and other regional celebrations on October 20 and 21.
According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) holiday calendar, the closures will vary across banking centres depending on local festivals and observances.

On Tuesday, October 20, bank branches across most parts of the country will remain closed for Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami. The holiday will also be observed in connection with Mahanavami, Ayudha Puja and Durga Puja in different regions.
Gangtok and Imphal are among the exceptions to the widespread closure listed for this date.

The bank branches in Gangtok will also be closed on October 22 and 23 on the occasion of Durga Puja and Dasain.
Following these festival days, banks all over India will be closed on October 24, 4th Saturday of the month and on October 25, Sunday.
The branches at Agartala, Chandigarh, Jammu, Shimla and Srinagar are to observe holidays on October 26 on various events such as Lakshmi Puja, Accession Day and Maharishi Valmiki's birthday.
Which banking services will remain available?
Although physical branches will be closed, customers can generally continue using digital banking services, including UPI, mobile banking, internet banking and ATMs.
However, services that require a branch visit—such as accessing bank lockers, obtaining demand drafts, completing certain KYC procedures or carrying out some large cash transactions—may not be available during the holidays. Cheque clearing and other branch-dependent transactions may also face delays.
Customers are advised to complete urgent branch-related work in advance and check their bank’s local holiday schedule before travelling
