Setting a new milestone : Tamil hero Vijay to act in a Telugu woman film maker's venture
‘Thalapathy’ Vijay has of late emerged as a darling of the Telugu film patrons.
'Thalapathy' Vijay has of late emerged as a darling of the Telugu film patrons. With his 'Adhirindhi' making a positive impact for its zingy mix of action and emotion in 2017, the local movie lovers have wholeheartedly welcomed two more dubbed masala mixes that followed in the next two years.
His 2019 Diwali release ' Whistle' was a roaring blockbuster earning nearly Rs 300 crore all across the world film markets, making it a hat-trick of sorts for the Chennai star.
News that is wafting across from the neighbouring film market of Tamil Nadu is that the 46-year-old action hero has okayed a film with Sudha Kongara Prasad, known for her tri-lingual hit – Guru - of a moody boxer with Madhavan playing the lead in Tamil and Hindi and Venkatesh, essaying the protagonist in Telugu.
The highlight of this association is that it's for the first time an A-lister like Vijay is to be directed by a female film director, a community which has been slowly expanding in reach and output over the years in Indian cinema industry.
For that matter, his seniors like Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth too were never under the baton of the fairer sex all through their long tenures at the top.
Setting a new milestone
As per records in public domain, there are more than 140 female film directors who have worked across various Indian film industries over the years.
In the new millennium, there are two dozen of them in Hindi and southern film languages who command a decent draw at the box office.
With the top slot in Tamil cinema now more or less confirmed, Vijay has moved with alacrity to earn a niche for himself in the political field of his state. The results of his endeavour would be known only by the summer of 2021.
For the present however, this Sudha Kongara film is expected to take off by May 2020 when Vijay wraps up his latest under production flick ' Master ' which has Vijay Sethupathy playing a pivotal role in it.
The initial news tidbits that are available indicate that the erstwhile assistant to Mani Rathnam would be the chosen one to complete the post-summer production of Vijay, who is enjoying a golden run in Tamil cinema.
He has not only outpaced peers like Ajith Kumar but also has toppled Rajinikanth whose ambitious release ' Darbar' underperformed at the BO.
